Hi,
I'm Ari from South Africa. I'm a totally blind guy studying Anthropology, German, Politics, Zulu and International Relations. I would appreciate it if any totally blind students who are studying anthropology could contact me, because there are some things I'd please like tips on from my fellow blind students. I'd also like pen pal students from all over the world, so that we can chat and learn about each other's lives and cultures, and what share tips on studying things like languages. I am 23, liberal, enjoy learning about different cultures and people's lives, I enjoy different foods, reading fiction and non-fiction (just not fantasy or scifi), playing computer games for the blind, discussing adaptive technology, chatting on skype, European and world football, learning languages, listening to different types of music and radio stations from all over the world, blind culture, rowing and many other hobbies. You can send me a private message, or contact me by email at
aridamoulakis@gmail.com
Thanks very much, I look forward to hearing from you!

Oh yes, I also enjoy discussing differences between genders, feminism and gender politics. I've just finished reading Katie Roiphe's book The Morning After.

Hi,
It sounds like you have a lot of hobbies. I'm not totally blind, but I did take some anthropology classes in college. I was a Sociology major, and the Anthropology classes were some of the most interest ones of my college career. I can understand why you'd have some concerns. For instance, if you were to do an ethnographic study, or an interview, would transportation or cultural issues like greeting others, or propper ettiquette be difficult for you as a totally blind individual? I'm not sure what tips I can provide other than, if you were to be accompanied by a blind classmate or peer, have them explain things beforehand. Perhaps, if necessary, you could discuss these issues with your professors. In any case, I'd advise you to try to come up with solutions to whatever barriers you're facing ASAP. Professors hate to be bombarded with possible hairy situations at the last minute. Also, have you thought about what kind of career an Anthropology major would lead to? Are you interested in teaching? Field research? Drop me a private message if you'd like. I like pen pals as well. I have one from Zimbabwe.

Hello, as I was rereading my last post, I should have said that it might be a good idea to be accompanied by a sighted peer or classmate. Sorry for the mistake. I should have caught that earlier. Drop me a line if you'd like, as I'd be interested to know about your future ambitions.
